88 irregular migration attempts foiled (National Guard)

National Guard units foiled 88 irregular migration attempts and rescued 1,131 migrants on October 2, 3 and 4, 2023, according to a report released on Thursday by the National Guard General Directorate. The coast guard units of the centre and Sfax foiled 33 irregular migration attempts and rescued 791 migrants, including 543 sub-Saharan African nationals. 23 metal boats were destroyed, 10 marine engines and a dinghy, 4 vehicles used to transport people by land and sea and a motorbike used to detect routes were seized. The coast guard units in the Sahel and the National Guard in Nabeul also managed to thwart 55 irregular migration and rescue 337 Tunisian undocumented migrants. 11 boats were destroyed and 14 vehicles were seized. National Guard units arrested 43 wanted individuals for mediating and organising smuggling operations and seized sums of money in Tunisian and foreign currencies during searches carried out under legal cover, according to the report.
