Archbishop of Douala calls for donations to help Yagoua flood victims

General

His Grace Samuel Kleda, has launched a call inviting christians of the Douala Archdiocese and people of goodwill to contribute money to help the people of Yagoua in the Far North region, who have been victims of devastating floods recently.

The call made on Tuesday September 24, 2024 came less than 24 hours when Territorial Administration Minister Paul Atanga Nji issued severe warnings to any organization or person(s) who organize fund raising events to collect money destined for the flood victims who have already benefited a lot from the state that disbursed FCFA 350 million.

However, media reports reveals some persons testified receiving nothing though their names were on the list of victims. Others complained that the donation was very insufficient .

But the Douala Archbishop is not worried about this warning as he went ahead to make the donation call.

‘If the 350 million was small, why could the state not double the amount so that everyone benefits sufficiently? Is it not the sweat of Cameroonians th
rough tax payment? These are Cameroonians who need serious help. Whatever be the case, it is a Catholic tradition for the church to contribute money to help the the poor and suffering people.’ His Grace Samuel Kleda, clarified.

The sum to be raised, he said will be used to ‘build destroyed homes ands schools destroyed to permit children continue schooling, as well as permit the people whose farm lands were devastated , feed.’

Archbishop Samuel Kleda indicated that the money contributed will be channeled to the Yagoua Diocese that will carry out an evaluation to determine the number of school infrastructures damaged for reconstruction.

‘Once determined, the money will go a long way to rebuild destroyed schools to enable children go to school. It will also be repartitioned to the victims who relied on their devastated farmlands for livelihood. If we don’t do this, how will they feed?’ Asked the prelate.

Being a natural disaster that could happen anywhere and at any moment, His Grace Samuel Kleda implored pe
rsons of goodwill to donate generously what they have through the Douala Archdiocese.
