The Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP) kicked off on Thursday morning works of the first plenary session since the formation of committees, to discuss a bill on the approval of a loan agreement from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) worth US$ 500 million (equivalent to TND 1.530 billion) for the benefit of Tunisia to fund its State Budget.

Loan Bill No. 4 of 2023 aims to secure external borrowing resources to fund the State 2023 budget at a variable interest rate (equivalent to 3 months’ savings + 5.25%) currently estimated at 10.28%. The loan is scheduled to be repaid over a period of 5 years, with a two-year grace period.

According to the bill, the Finance Ministry considers that the terms of the loan agreement, and in particular the interest rate (10.28%), are acceptable compared with the cost of issues on the international markets.
