Bouasker expects local elections to be held between late October and early November 2023

Local elections are expected to be held between the end of October and the beginning of November, said President of the Independent Higher Authority for the Elections (ISIE) Farouk Bouasker.

In an interview with TAP, Bouasker explained that the ISIE is preparing as best it can for the elections, and is only waiting for the publication in the JORT of all the decisions regarding the territorial division of the Imadas in the 24 governorates before launching the operation to update the electoral register.

The members of the local councils are elected by universal, free, direct, secret and transparent suffrage, using the uninominal system (decree law 2023/10 of March 8, 2023).

This is the first stage in the setting up of the second parliamentary chamber, the National Council of Regions and Districts.

The ISIE is in charge of organising and supervising the election of local council members at all stages, he pointed out.
