Businessman and former MP Ridha Charfeddine was remanded in custody on Friday night for a renewable period of five days, by order of the Economic and Financial Judicial Division’s prosecution, said member of Charfeddine’s defence group Jamel Hajji.

Contacted by TAP on Saturday, Hajji indicated that his client had been informed on Friday that he is wanted in a case related to “financial crimes” dating back to 2021.

This case, which was brought in pursuance of the law on the fight against money laundering, had been dropped in 2021.

However, the case resurfaced when the investigating judge at the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division decided to keep Ridha Charfeddine at liberty, as part of the so-called plot against State security, he explained.

Ridha Charfeddine was taken into custody on November 10 by virtue of a letter rogatory issued by the investigating judge at the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division, in the so-called case of plotting against State security.

On November 24, 2023, Charfeddine was interr
ogated by the investigating judge of the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division and released.
