The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Cenre (CCIC), on Thursday, held a workshop in Sousse on exporting to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCTA) market, as part of its efforts to support exporting companies based in the central region.

The event, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and the Tunisian Customs, aims to strengthen the capacity of companies exporting to African markets, president of the CCIC Nejib Mellouli told TAP.

This meeting also aims to provide the latest updates on the AfCFTA, signed in March 2018, and its impact on the development of exports to countries on the continent.

The aim is also to provide a better understanding of the latest legal texts relating to the preferential customs advantages in force, as well as the customs procedures applicable under this agreement.

In this context, Mellouli stressed the importance of Tunisia’s membership of the AFCTA, which has more than one billion consumers in 54 African countries, adding that “opening up our count
ry to these markets is an opportunity that can help boost exports and create new investment opportunities and jobs”.

The meeting provided an ideal opportunity to listen to the concerns of exporting companies and the difficulties they face, which would facilitate better access and more advantageous integration into these markets.

At the end of the meeting, Mellouli recalled the missions organised by the CCIC in several African countries to explore investment opportunities and build partnerships, mentioning the business missions to Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia, which led to the signing of a series of cooperation agreements with the Chambers of Commerce and Industry concerned.
