Tunis: Coastguard units in the central region rescued 2,688 people over the weekend: 2,640 from sub-Saharan African countries and 48 Tunisians during 85 irregular migration operations. They also recovered 13 bodies.
In a related development, National Guard units in Sfax arrested 15 wanted people, including smugglers and traffickers, according to a statement released on Monday by the Directorate General of the National Guard. They also seized 23 metal boats, 68 boats, a lorry used to transport people and a quantity of fuel.
The necessary legal steps have been taken.
