The chief investigating judge at the Court of First Instance in Tunis, on Thursday, issued an arrest warrant for leader of the Free Destourian Party (PDL), Abir Moussi, spokesperson for the Tunis Court of Appeal, Habib Torkhani, said in a statement to TAP. Torkhani clarified that the General Prosecutor of the Tunis Court of Appeal had authorised the Public Prosecutor of the Tunis Court of First Instance to open a formal investigation against Moussi. “This decision follows her actions on October 3, which constitute multiple offences under the law.” The chief investigating judge at the Court of First Instance took charge of the case after questioning Moussi in the presence of her defence lawyer, according to the same source. Nafaa Aribi, the defence lawyer representing Abir Moussi, told TAP on Tuesday that the public prosecutor at the Tunis Court of First Instance had decided to remand his client in custody. Moussi was transferred to Bouchoucha preventive detention centre, where she was detained for 48 hours. Aribi explained that Moussi had been arrested on Tuesday in front of the presidential palace in Carthage while she was filing a complaint with the Presidency of the Republic to challenge the recent orders in the Official Gazette relating to the local elections. He suggested that her arrest was probably on suspicion of handling personal data without authorisation, obstructing the freedom to work and deliberate provocation to cause disorder on Tunisian territory.
