Stakeholders dealing with environmental matters in Makueni County have been challenged to collaborate to avoid duplication and wastage of resources. Speaking on Tuesday, Makueni County Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili emphasised the need for the different organisations involved in mitigating climate change issues to at least say where they are and what they do. Consequently, Mulili urged Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Civil Societies, Academia and state agencies to collaborate in a bid to create synergy in tackling environmental matters in the county. ‘As a government, we want to know where you are based and what you do so that we can avoid duplication of efforts and wastage of resources,’ said Mulili when she officially opened a one-day forum of various stakeholders dealing with environmental matters in the county at a hotel in Wote town. She further noted that the different partners in the environment needed to educate Wananchi on how to adapt to the ever-changing climate effects that are being witnessed currently. ‘Climate change is here with us. I appeal to the different organisations who are here this morning to help our people adapt to climate change for their benefit,’ said the deputy governor. The primary objective of the forum was to collaborate among the different entities and formulate comprehensive strategies for coordinated climate change adaptation within the county. The event was organised by the Department of Lands, Urban Planning, and Development, Environment, through the Climate Change Fund. Present during the event included the Department of Lands, Executive Committee Member (ECM) Dr. Sonia Nzilani, Chief Officer Japheth Kiminza, and board members of the Climate Fund, among other officers from the national government.
