The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (French: FTDES) called Friday for holding a Cabinet meeting on female farmhands.

There is need to involve all actors, experts and researchers in the development of a short and long-term strategy to organise the agricultural sector so as to safeguard the rights of farm labourers.

It is also imperative to step up control to ban the transport of farmhands in conditions non compliant with law n 51 of 2019 on the creation of a category of transport for this group of labourers.

The forum also called for finding solutions as part of the State’s strategy to address economic violence against women.

The move follows a road accident on Thursday in Sidi Bouzid. A female farmhand was killed and further eight suffered injuries when a passenger car collided with the truck carrying them.
