General

The strike in the fuel transport sector, originally scheduled for September 29 and 30, 2023, has been postponed to October 19 and 20, 2023, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs on Thursday. The decision to postpone the strike was taken during a conciliation meeting held on Thursday morning at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Affairs. The meeting examined the strike notice issued by the oil and chemical workers’ union, which is affiliated to the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT). The strike notice was issued following the failure to reach an agreement between the union and the representative of fuel transport companies. This was confirmed by the union’s general secretary, Salouane Smiri. The conciliation meeting was chaired by Social Affairs Minister Malek Ezzahi and attended by UGTT Deputy General Secretary Taher Barbari, representative of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) Sami Selini, the General Secretary of the Oil and Chemicals Union and representatives of the oil and dangerous goods transport unions.
