The government has created new administrative units in Homa Bay County in a bid to promote effective service delivery.
Through a Kenya Gazette notice, new sub-counties, divisions, locations, and sub-locations have been created across the county.
Suba, in Homa Bay County, is among the regions that benefited the most.
The region got two new subcounties (Suba Central and Suba West) and new divisions, including Ruma/Kaksingri East, Kaksingri West,Gwassi South, and Gwassi North.
Suba region also benefited from the hiving off of new locations, including Rang’wa East, Nyamarandi, Sindo, Kwirathia, and Mwegemu.
UDA Party youth and women in Suba thanked the government for the initiative.
They also expressed appreciation for the ongoing tarmacking of the 74-km Mbita-Magunga-Sori road, where 7.4km have already been done.
The women and youths met in Mbita town on Saturday to rejuvenate and popularise the UDA party in the region.
The regions Youth Coordinator, Bruce Ogweno, and his women’s league counterpart, Jose
phine Abonyo, said the creation of new administrative units and the implementation of development projects will uplift the local economy.
Ogweno said they have started grassroots mobilisations to make UDA popular in the region.
Previously, the region had two subcounties, which were Suba and Mbita.
He argued that joining the UDA party will make the region to benefit more from the Kenya Kwanza government.
‘We plan to register more than 40,000 new UDA members in the Suba region by June. The locals have appreciated that working closely with the government is beneficial,’ Ogweno said.
The women and youths said that they will support the government in the implementation of development projects in the region.
President William Ruto toured the region in October last year and pledged to implement the projects.
The President also commissioned the tarmacking of Mfang’ano and Rusinga ring roads, as well as the building of fish landing sites in Wakula and Nyandiwa.
Suba is among the regions in Kenya which is consi
dered marginalized. The region has never had tarmack road since independence.
Speaking today during their meeting in Sindo, Suba South constituency, Ogweno said the creation of the administrative units will ensure residents access government services with ease.
‘The creation of new administrative boundaries automatically comes with more resources. We’re going to do all that is at our disposal to ensure the community supports the government,’ he added.
Abonyo said tarmacking of the Sindo-Magunga-Sori road will enhance business activities in the region.
The Suba region has the longest lake shoreline in the county and over six islands, with fishing being one of the major economic activities.
‘Tarmacking of the road will improve business activities in Suba since we’ll have our goods reach markets with ease. More people will also be employed with the coming of the new administrative units,’ Abonyo said.
Other residents, Joshua Magadi, Maureen Adhiambo, and Okinyi Nyauke, said they were on the front lines of
popularising the UDA party in the region.
‘We are going to undertake door-to-door membership mobilisation of people to register as UDA party members,’ Magadi said.
The team agreed to meet at least once a month as they prepare for the UDA grass-roots elections.
