Ibrahim Ben Abdallah and Ali MouaSdi, the two candidates for the local council elections in the Redeyef constituency of the Gafsa governorate, are competing for a seat on the council.
They agree on the need to combat industrial pollution caused by the activities of the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG), in particular the accumulation of phosphate waste in the Redeyef housing estates.
Candidate Ibrahim Ben Abdallah promised to work to reduce the frequency of water cuts in the area’s neighbourhoods, to set up an emergency medical service and to improve the services of the local hospital in Redeyef, particularly in terms of attracting specialist doctors.
Candidate Ali MouaSdi, on the other hand, claims that stepping up reforestation programmes and creating green spaces would improve the environmental situation in Redeyef’s neighbourhoods.
He also argues that employment is one of the challenges facing the region, particularly given the weakness of its economic fabric and the lack of interest in investment from t
he private sector.
In Redeyef, 15 other candidates are also vying for access to the local council.
