Tunis: Some 655 protests were reported during the 2nd quarter of 2024 (Q2 2024), compared with 392 protests in Q1 2024.
According to the latest report by the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES), 212 protests were recorded in June, compared with 248 in May this year.
The main demands in June centred on the payment of salaries, the regularisation of professional status, the right to employment, the improvement of working conditions, drinking water cuts, the worsening environmental and health situation, and the state of the roads.
Gafsa topped the list of protesting governorates with 40 movements, followed by Bizerte and Medenine with 36 movements each, then the governorates of Nabeul, Kairouan, Tataouine and Tunis.
Most of the protests took place in workplaces (82 movements), on the roads and in public spaces (47 movements). 31 movements were recorded in the Gafsa phosphate company.

According to the report, 94% of the movements seen in June were organised, compared with 5.19% spontaneous.
95.75% of movements were group protests, compared with 4.25% individual protests.
