Parents have been reminded the noble role they have to play to ensure security of their children.
Speaking at Matisi Primary School in Trans Nzoia County during a tree planting and crime sensitization exercise organized by the Department of Probation and Aftercare Services, Director Victor Ogenje challenged parents to always monitor the activities of their children in a bid to ensure their safety.
Noting that children in low-income areas are at a high risk of being induced in criminal activities, Ogenje said that mitigation measures like sensitization are essential.
As he called for a multi-sectoral approach to fight crime, Ogenje said the contribution of all stakeholders is key to the achievement of desired results.
During the exercise, stakeholders took the chance to reach out to the learners by donating clothes and food stuff, as the school is located in a low-income location and most of the learners hail from poor backgrounds.

led stakeholders for the noble course admitting that the school has had to deal with learners who on several occasions have engaged in criminal activities.
He said the duty of raising children in a morally upright manner cannot be solely left to teachers as it requires joint efforts.
‘We have had cases of learners being involved in drug and substance abuse, theft and other criminal activities. We attribute this to our proximity to the slum which happens to be a breeding ground for all these,’ he said.
During the exercise, 2000 trees were planted in an effort to aid in the achievement of 11.9 million annual county tree planting target.
