Successful transplant of left ventricular assistance device in heart failure patient at Rabta Hospital

A medical team at the cardiovascular diseases centre of the Rabta Teaching Hospital, on November 30, performed a left ventricular assist device transplant operation on a patient suffering from acute heart failure, head of the cardiology department at the Rabta Hospital Mohamed Sami Mourali said.

The 44-year-old patient suffers from a heart disease and is undergoing medical monitoring following the success of this surgery, the first of its kind in Tunisia, Mourali told TAP.

“The transpalnt operation is part of a 3-year project to treat patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases,” he specified.

The surgery had been a success, he said, thanks to the collaboration of a medical and paramedical team of the Rabta hospital’s cardiovascular department.

Health Minister Ali Mrabet on December 6 visited the cardiovascular surgery department at the Rabta Hospital and enquired about the health state of the patient who had undergone the surgery, commending the efforts made by the medical and paramedical staff at t
he Rabta hospital, considered to be a centre of excellence both in the Maghreb and in Africa.
