The supply of raw materials, the marketing of products and the insufficiency of demand are the main obstacles facing industrial enterprises: this is the main finding of a business condition and prospects in Q2 survey conducted by the National Institute of Statistics (French: INS).

The survey polled 103 industrial enterprises in the period from May 15 to July 15. A decline in the balance of opinion about trends of raw material prices was observed.

The balance of opinion is the difference between the proportion of respondents having expressed a positive opinion and the proportion of respondents having expressed a negative opinion, INS said.

The balance of opinion on industrial production declined, reaching 19 % against 18% in Q1 of 2023.

The balance of opinion as regards forecasts of production in Q3 showed a downward trend with 31% against 36% in Q2 of 2023.

The balance of opinion about the external demand for industrial materials in Q2 stabilised compared to Q1; a slight rise is expected in Q3.

A downward trend was noted in Q2 (7%) as regards the evolution of the number of wage-earners compared to Q1 (11%).
