Social Affairs Minister Malek Ezzahi announced on Friday the launch of the “Tahadi” project aimed at the economic empowerment of people with disabilities.

The ministry further decided to devote 30% of the overall budget of the economic empowerment programme to this project, with additional funding worth TND 3.2 million, he added.

Speaking at a press conference held at the International Centre for the Promotion of the Disabled in Gammarth, Ezzahi said that the launch of this project falls under the State’s commitment to fulfil its social role towards people with disabilities.

“The Tahadi project will devote TND3.2 million for the creation of sources of income, with a funding ceiling of up to TND 50 thousand”, he indicated, pointing out that the economic empowerment programme has funded 325 projects for people with disabilities.

2% of recruitment in public and private companies would be devoted to people with disabilities, noting that there had been a number of breaches in the enforcement of the law accord
ing to reports by ministry inspectors.

Ezzahi further indicated that companies that do not respect the quota for the recruitment of people with disabilities will be subject to sanctions.
