Tunisia, Qatar discuss ways to boost cultural diplomacy

Minister of Cultural Affairs Hayet Ketat Guermazi had a talk Wednesday in Doha with Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Culture. The meeting was attended by Tunisian Ambassador to Qatar Farhad Khalif. The two ministers discussed ways to boost joint action so as activate cultural diplomacy and submit joint nomination files for inscription on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Joint action to promote Tunisia as a cultural tourism destination boasting diversified cultural heritage was debated. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 12th Conference of Ministers of Culture in the Islamic World which opened Monday in Doha under the theme “Towards a Renewal of Cultural Action in the Islamic world.” Cooperation in such areas as arts and heritage took centre stage, in addition to the exchange of expertise to foster a two-way promotion of cultural heritage. The talk also focused on ways to update the agreement on cultural cooperation which dates back to 1975 – a move which would expand its areas.
