The Voice of the Republic party said it has submitted its request to form a parliamentary group to the Assembly of People’s Representatives (ARP). This is the first parliamentary group of its kind to be officially announced. In a statement to TAP Wednesday, MP Amel Meddeb said she has been elected head of the bloc and that her colleague, MP Hamadi Ghailani, has been elected vice-president within the same group. She added that the party had submitted the file for the formation of the bloc to the Parliamentary Bureau on Monday, in accordance with the provisions of the ARP’s rules of procedure. He said this bloc will bring together 21 MPs, including 20 members of the party and another deputy who does not belong to the party but recently joined the parliamentary group. Article 14 of the ARP’s rules of procedure states that “the parliamentary group is formed after a file is submitted to the Presidency of the Assembly of the People’s Representatives containing the declaration of the group’s formation and status…”. The declaration includes the name of the group, the list of its members with their respective designations and the identity of its president and vice-president. The Voice of the Republic party, headed by Ali Hafsi (a businessman and former leader of the Nidaa Tounes movement who served as minister in charge of relations with parliament under the government of Elyes Fakhfakh), was created in August 2022 and its executive committee is made up of nine members. In the recent legislative elections, it won 7 seats in the first round and 13 seats in the second round.
