150 Tunisian and sub-Saharan migrants rescued off Sfax and Mahdia

Coast Guard units intercepted and rescued more than 150 Tunisian and sub-Saharan African migrants who illegally crossed the sea border in three separate operations off Sfax and Mahdia, the General Directorate of the National Guard said on Thursday.

They were gathered at a naval station several kilometres away, “but the crossers began to disobey, threatening the naval crew and trying to attack them with sharp instruments”.

The members of this group were controlled after the arrival of reinforcements from the Navy and the Coast Guard and their entry into the port of Mahdia and the initiation of judicial proceeedings, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
