Post: 20 Arrested and 50 Litres of Illicit Brew Destroyed in Narok Town Crackdown

Nairobi: Police in Narok town have today arrested 20 people for dealing in illicit brew and destroyed over 50 litres of the brew.

According to Kenya News Agency, Narok Central Sub County Police Commander John Momanyi stated that samples of the illicit brew have been collected and sent to the government chemist for analysis to determine its content.

The consumers claim the substance is a traditional medicine, yet observers note that all the consumers appear unwell and unable to stand upright. This prompted the police to take samples of the brew for further examination to ascertain its true nature.

The area known as 'Kambi Shetani' has been identified as a hotspot for illicit brewing, where many young people are often found consuming these inexpensive drinks. Commander Momanyi emphasized that those apprehended will be prosecuted and serve as a deterrent to others considering similar illegal activities.

Commander Momanyi assured the community that efforts will continue until all individuals involved in illicit brewing are held accountable. He emphasized the negative impact on young people's productivity due to their frequenting of drinking dens.

The police commander urged the public to collaborate with law enforcement by providing information on illicit brewing activities in their areas to help eliminate the issue. He reiterated that only licensed establishments are permitted to sell alcoholic beverages and encouraged the community to report any illegal sales.

The police chief highlighted the detrimental effects of illicit brews, which have led to health complications and contributed to poverty in affected families. He encouraged citizens to consume only government-approved drinks.

The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has conducted numerous campaigns in the region to raise awareness about alcohol and drug abuse.
