Wote: There is a pressing need for both national and county governments to implement targeted interventions as outlined in Vision 2030, in order to actualize the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), according to Devolution PS Michael Lenasalon. He emphasized that these interventions should be well-coordinated under the intergovernmental relations Act, which provides an administrative framework for coordination and enhanced cooperation between the two levels of government to ensure equitable development across the country.
According to Kenya News Agency, Lenasalon made these remarks at a hotel in Wote, Makueni, while closing a four-day training workshop for 24 Trainers of Trainers (ToTs). The workshop drew participants from four counties in the Eastern, North Eastern, Coast, and Nairobi regions. The PS explained that the workshop aims to generate champions of Project Management Committees (PMCs) at both levels of government.
"The PMCs are aimed at facilitating and ensuring the sustainability of the projects committees' concept in the implementation of devolution. It is evident that pioneered community-led oversight structures have made a positive impact on the ground," Lenasalon stated in his speech. He urged the ToTs to pass on the knowledge they gained to the community level and to ensure that PMCs are established and operationalized in each county, so projects are monitored and completed according to specifications.
This workshop follows a similar one held in Homa Bay County, where 23 ToTs were trained. The training included learning modalities such as norms and standards that unify project implementation, peer-to-peer learning, and exchange visits.
