Nairobi: In the spirit of generosity and compassion that defines the holy month of Ramadhan, the Absa Kenya Foundation is making a difference by donating food and essential supplies worth Sh3 million to vulnerable families across the country. Through this initiative, over 800 households impacting more than 2,400 people will receive much-needed support to help them break their fast with dignity in various regions.
According to Kenya News Agency, during a donation exercise in Kibra on March 22, 2025, Absa Bank Kenya's Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Yusuf Omari, emphasised the bank's commitment to inclusivity and community support. He also highlighted the Absa Kenya Foundation's broader role in social development through its four key pillars: entrepreneurship, education, environmental conservation, and humanitarian support.
Omari reiterated, 'We have started a foundation that consists of four pillars. The first pillar is entrepreneurship, which is business. The second pillar is education. The third pillar is environmental conservation, and the fourth is humanitarian needs, just like what we are doing here today.' The CFO noted that the foundation, launched last year, is dedicated to supporting various initiatives, including the Kibra Ramadan Initiative, which provides aid to vulnerable families during the holy month.
Further, Omari praised the impact of the initiative and reaffirmed Absa's commitment to similar efforts. He also highlighted the bank's ongoing engagements in different regions, revealing plans to expand outreach efforts to Mombasa in the coming weeks. 'God willing, we will continue,' he said, underscoring Absa's long-term vision for community development.
Omari expressed, 'We are honoured to be here today to share in the spirit of Ramadhan, which emphasises generosity and compassion. Just as we believe in inclusivity in our banking solutions, we also believe in uplifting those in need during this period so they, too, can break their fast with dignity.' Additionally, the CFO praised the Kibra Ramadhan Initiative, acknowledging its role in supporting families in need. He reiterated the foundation's long-term vision, which extends beyond this donation, emphasising the importance of sustainable support for communities.
Meanwhile, religious leaders welcomed the initiative, recognising its significance in easing the burden on struggling families. Deputy Chief Kadhi of the Shariah Board, Sheikh Sukyan Omar, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Muslim community, stating, 'We are grateful that the Absa Kenya Foundation has chosen to support the vulnerable during this sacred month. These donations will go a long way in easing the burden on families in need.'
So far, food distributions have reached communities across the country, including Garissa, Kisumu, Kajiado, Oyugis, Bungoma, Isiolo, Murang'a, Eldoret, Nkurumah, and Nairobi, covering areas such as Gilgil, Mukuru, Juja, Kariobangi, and Kawangware. More donations are planned until the end of Ramadhan.
