Post: 9.34km Rusinga Ring Road to Be Ready by July

Homa Bay: The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is on track to complete the construction of the 19.34-kilometre Rusinga Ring Road by July this year. Launched in August last year, the project is anticipated to enhance transportation to the island’s beaches and fishing areas.

According to Kenya News Agency, the project has a budget of approximately Sh1.23 billion and is currently 73 percent complete. Speaking after the inspection of the project, KURA Director General Eng. Siras Kinoti said the development of the Rusinga Island Ring Road will improve the quality of life for the local community by enabling access to key areas, such as the beaches, and bolstering fishing activities.

The road is also likely to attract investors interested in establishing hotels and tourist attractions, thus fostering economic growth. Eng. Kinoti emphasized the importance of effective resource management to ensure the success of these projects.

Additionally, KURA is focused on maintaining existing roads in Homa Bay Town and has plans to begin the construction of the Mfangano Island Ring Road once the Rusinga project is complete. The County Government of Homa Bay is also implementing the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Scheme (KISIP) on Rusinga Island, which aims to complement KURA’s efforts in enhancing local infrastructure.
