Post: Alcohol and Drug Abuse Crisis Demands National Unity, Says Murkomen

Vihiga: Interior and National Administration CS Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning that alcohol and drug abuse have escalated into a national crisis that cannot be resolved through police efforts alone.

According to Kenya News Agency, Murkomen, while addressing the Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Vihiga County, emphasized that the problem is deeply entrenched in the country's social fabric. He called for an urgent and collective approach from all societal sectors, including communities, churches, chiefs, county commissioners, political leaders, and families, to tackle this growing menace.

Murkomen highlighted the necessity of embracing social and cultural change to effectively combat the issues of drugs and alcoholism. He underscored the importance of integrating the government's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) into this fight, pointing out that economic empowerment and social reform are interconnected.

He urged transparency and communication, encouraging people to come forward with their struggles, enabling the government to create interventions that genuinely address their needs. Murkomen warned that inaction could lead to deeper social decay for future generations, stressing the need for Kenyans to take responsibility.

During the forum, Murkomen interacted with local National Government Administrative Officers, including chiefs and their assistants, as well as members of the National Police Service, who requested improvements in their terms and conditions of service.
