General Coordinator of Soumoud Coalition Houssem El Hammi Sunday urged “democratic forces to find alternative solutions in a bid to manage the current crisis in the country and address outstanding issues.”

El Hammi was speaking at a rally held Sunday outside the Municipal Theatre by the Coordination of Progressive Democratic Forces and the Forum of Democratic Forces in observance of the 13th anniversary of January 14 Revolution.

Security was beefed up in downtown Tunis, TAP reporter said, and particularly in Habib Bourguiba avenue and adjacent streets to protect the different marches organised by the Salvation Front, the National Coordination of Democratic Forces and the Forum of Democratic Forces.

In December 2021, President of the Republic Kais Saied decided to mark the anniversary of the Revolution on December 17. January 14 was the day Ben Ali’s regime collapsed while December 17 saw the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi inSidi Bouzid which sparke the popular uprising in 2010.

Houssem El Hammi said
the “regime in power was seeking to do away with the date of January 14 and its symbolism by means of replacing it with December 17 in the commemoration of the Revolution.

The Forum of Democratic Forces and the Coordination of Progressive Democratic Forces are committed to tabling alternatives that will contribute to the country’s progress.

Member of the Democratic Current Nabil Hajji said the current and all democratic forces endorse social demands of the Tunisian Revolution, mainly dignity and freedom.

SG of the Workers Party Hamma Hammami called for safeguarding the gains of the Tunisian Revolution which, he said, deserves to be celebrated by all Tunisians.

Saied supporters said the priority today is to achieve unity and close ranks to steer the country out of the crisis.
