Post: Authorities in Naivasha Destroy Over Sh3 Million Bhang and Enhance Crackdown

Nairobi: Naivasha's multi-agency security team has seized and destroyed bhang worth over Sh3 million in an enhanced crackdown on the illegal drug trade. The security team reported that the bhang was stored in a rented house in the Kayole estate on the outskirts of Naivasha town, awaiting further distribution to end users.

According to Kenya News Agency, Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Josiah Odongo stated that the security team has been on high alert following reports of increased use of bhang among children and youths. Odongo led the destruction of the bhang in Naivasha and announced enhanced surveillance to root out the drug menace in the lakeside town, while urging citizens to report any incidents.

Odongo also revealed that they are pursuing the culprits involved in the illegal trade, as well as the owner of the premises where the bhang was seized, who is currently on the run. He urged youths to refrain from engaging in the drug trade and instead focus on legal business activities to avoid legal consequences.

Additionally, Odongo put bodaboda riders on notice, stating that they have been at the forefront of peddling the drug around the vast sub-county, particularly in informal settlements. He mentioned that due to increased surveillance and crackdowns on illegal trade, traders have resorted to sourcing the drug from neighboring countries, especially Tanzania.

This move follows months after another consignment of cannabis sativa was seized in the same Kayole estate by authorities, during which the DCC expressed concern over the increased use of bhang by students.
