Baham: Gendarmes recover FCFA 10 million from suspected banditsPresident of the Republic orders dispatch of ship carrying food and medical aid to Palestine

West region have recovered the sum of FCFA 10 million from eight suspected armed bandits they nabbed and presented to the public on January 10, 2024.

Three vehicles and 35 cartons of phytosanitary items were also confiscated from the suspects.

‘The three vehicles seized from the eight criminals include a Rav 4 jeep, Toyota corolla, and a pickup,’ Captain Mbouinz Daniel declared.

The suspects are accused of burgling several homes in different localities including Baham, Bamena, Bangou and Bangangte , depriving them of their money and possessions. They were arrested following a tipoff from an anonymous informant.

‘They had a special modus operandi. An inmate at the Bafoussam Central prison calls and gives them potential homes and directives to get inside for the operation. One of them goes to familiarize himself with the chosen home. Once that is done, they regroup and carry out their operation. Once they get you, they force you to transfer all the money in your phone into their account,’ Fotio Romuald , A
ssistant commander of the Baham gendarmerie company explained.

Also seized from the suspects were five matchets, two nail pullers, arms and munitions.

The Senior Divisional Officer for the Upper Plateau division, Ebelle Ernest Samuel, saluted the relentless efforts of the gendarmes to fight against banditry and criminality.

He as well encouraged the population to continue giving a helping hand to the forces of law and order, responsible for their security and protection of properties.

President Kais Saied ordered the dispatch of a ship loaded with food aid and medical supplies to Palestine, in coordination with the Egyptian authorities, during his meeting on Thursday at the Carthage Palace with the head of the Tunisian Red Crescent, Abdellatif Chabo.

The President of the Republic praised the role played by the Tunisian Red Crescent, particularly in helping the wounded Palestinian victims of the barbaric Zionist aggression.

He also praised the outpouring of solidarity from the Tunisian people in support of their brothers in Palestine, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic.
