Post: Baz¨ga Reforestation Initiative Sees 300 Trees Planted in Doulougou

Baz¨ga: The NGO ULB-Coop©ration/Burkina, in partnership with local communities, spearheaded a significant reforestation effort on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in the village of B©legr©, situated along the Kombissiri-Doulougou axis. This initiative resulted in the planting of 300 cailcedrat (Khaya senegalensis) trees, each equipped with protective grids, over a stretch of nearly 3 kilometers. The endeavor was aimed at revitalizing the area's vegetation cover through strategic row planting.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Fr©d©ric Souband©, who manages projects in Agroecology and Agroforestry at ULB-Coop©ration, expressed that this effort aligns with the objectives set by the Burkina Faso Ministry of the Environment. The ministry advocates for the establishment of row plantings extending at least 2 kilometers in every municipality.

The reforestation day drew participation from various stakeholders, including the Baz¨ga Provincial Directorate of Water and Forests, under the leadership of director Sanata Domo, as well as the Secretary General of the Doulougou commune, who represented the President of the Special Delegation. Both officials commended the NGO's dedication and encouraged the local population to take responsibility for the upkeep of the newly planted trees.

Jos©fa Zagu©-Som©, Country Coordinator of ULB-Coop©ration Burkina, emphasized the NGO's commitment to environmental protection and called for collective efforts to ensure the survival of the trees. Furthermore, the initiative includes plans to plant an additional 50 trees-comprising cailcedrats, baobabs, and flamboyants-within the premises of the Doulougou central public primary school, thereby enhancing both educational and ecological benefits.

This project is part of the broader 'Sustainable Food Systems' program, which is financially supported by the Belgian Development Cooperation for the period from 2022 to 2026.
