Nouna: The bridge connecting the municipalities of Djibasso and Doumbala is experiencing significant deterioration, raising concerns among road users who have alerted municipal authorities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the deterioration of this crucial bridge has sparked anxiety among the local population, who are hopeful for timely interventions to address the issue. The Djibasso market serves as an important economic center in the sub-region, attracting traders from Mali and Burkina Faso every Thursday for commercial activities.
Residents from the villages within the Doumbala commune and those situated south of Djibasso, including Tienekuy, Kira, Ouarokuy, and Manidara, rely heavily on this sole access route to reach the market, which has now fallen into a state of disrepair. Youssouf Diallo, President of the special delegation of the Djibasso commune, mentioned that efforts have been made to engage with provincial and regional authorities to facilitate the bridge's repair.
In response to the situation, local residents have been proactive in placing stones on the embankments as a temporary measure. Additionally, access to sand sites has been restricted to prevent their use in construction projects, which could further deplete essential resources needed for road maintenance.
Youssouf Diallo emphasized the urgency of finding a resolution before the onset of regular rains in August. He encouraged communal support for development initiatives, asserting that infrastructure improvement is pivotal for the region's progress.
