Bungoma County Handball Team Prepares For KICOSCA Games

Bungoma county handball Team players are undergoing rigorous training in readiness for Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games that will take place in Meru from August 20 to 26, 2023. The team is training under head coach Amos Ongaya, team manager Clateus Walela and team captain Rambo. The inter-county sports competition will attract participants from across the 47 counties in Kenya. The purpose of these games is to give an opportunity to employees from the counties in Kenya to exhibit their sporting talents, interact and learn from each other’s cultural orientation. Walela said his team is well prepared for the games and their main goal is to finish as champions in handball competitions. ‘We are going to Meru and we are fully armed to come with a trophy.’ He said. The team finished third in last year’s competition that took place in Kisumu, behind Kisumu and Nairobi. The team manager added that there were so many challenges facing the team, including lack of proper documentation. ‘In last year’s games in Kisumu, there were challenges that made us finish in third position. One of the requirements was that we were required to produce things like pay slips to show that we were employees of the county government. ‘We never played with teams like Nairobi, we were edged out and they took our points, but now we are prepared and have all the documents, group photos and there is nothing that will hinder us this particular time in Meru,’ he added proper Squad selection and vetting has been done, he added. Bungoma County is in the same pool as Kajiado, Nanyuki and Machakos. The various venues in Meru where the games are set to take place include Kinoru Stadium, Meru TTC, Meru Polytechnic, Meru University and Meru School.
