Post: Burkina / 2024 exams: Rising rates but insufficient (minister)

Ouagadougou: The Minister in charge of National Education, Jacques Sosthène Dingara, welcomed on Friday the increases in success rates for CEP, BEPC and BAC 2024, but finds them insufficient compared to the ambitions of his department.'We recorded 82.16% success in the CEP in 2024 compared to 71.48% in 2023; 47.19% at the BEPC against 38.27% in 2023 and 52.61% at the baccalaureate against 39.34% in 2023, a partial assessment at the BAC level while awaiting the results of the replacement session which will take place in September' , declared the Minister in charge of National Education.According to him, the results obtained in a very difficult security context are certainly comforting, but remain insufficient in view of the ambitions harbored by the Burkinabè education system.At the same time, he confirmed that the Burkinabè education system has invested a total amount of 21 billion 814 million 212 thousand 178 FCFA for the smooth running of the school year.However, the national success rate of the BEP and CAP is 68.73% compared to a rate of 75.57% in 2023. The minister emphasizes that there is a rate of regression and this is undoubtedly explained by the relatively increasing number of candidates in technical fields, which is more than 15%.Also, there have been cases of fraud during exams and all these different cases are listed and treated in accordance with the texts in force. Some fraudulent candidates have already been tried and convicted.The minister spoke of the difficulties encountered by candidates during the exams, such as those linked to the security situation, those linked to the delays observed in the issuance of the summons of the actors, precisely to the BEPC exam in the Central region, the difficulties of not mastering the examination procedures manual, difficulties linked to the operationalization of the Integrated Examination and Competition Management System (SIGEC) software.All these difficulties were overcome thanks to the efforts of all those involved in the organization of the e xams, both civilian and military.He concluded by saying that improving the quality and credibility of examinations remains an ongoing mission for his department.Source: Burkina Information Agency
