Kiambu: Construction is in full swing at Kiambu Primary School, marking a significant step forward in the national government's mission to provide a better learning experience for its pupils. The school, which is one of the oldest in the region, is currently undergoing a major facelift, with the addition of new classroom blocks and improved facilities aimed at enhancing both teaching and learning conditions.
According to Kenya News Agency, the ongoing project includes the construction of several modern classrooms and the refurbishment of existing facilities. In a milestone moment for the school, in June 2024, Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka commissioned the construction work at the school. The new classroom blocks currently under construction are designed with space and accessibility in mind, which would accommodate up to 50 students per class, offering increased ventilation, natural lighting, and upgraded amenities.
The school administrators say these developments would significantly reduce overcrowding, allowing teachers to engage more effectively with students. Speaking during a recent site visit, the School's Head Teacher Rehab Gatiba expressed optimism about the impact of the project. 'We are excited about the progress. The new infrastructure will not only accommodate our growing student population but also create a more stimulating and dignified space for learning,' she said.
Parents and community members have also welcomed the initiative, noting that improved school facilities reflected a deeper commitment to education in Kiambu Town. Many believe that better infrastructure would boost academic performance and overall morale among learners. 'This expansion shows that the school is committed to providing a better environment for our children. I believe this development is a step in the right direction, and I hope the government led by our President William Ruto will continue to support such efforts that directly benefit our children's education,' stated Teresia Wamae, a parent at the school.
The project is part of a broader effort by local leadership through the national funding NGSDF to invest in public education. Kiambu town MP Waithaka has prioritized school infrastructure in his development agenda, citing the need to modernize outdated facilities and ensure all children have access to quality education in a safe environment. With construction progressing steadily, the school is expected to unveil the new blocks before the end of this year.
