Post: Clergy Condemns Brutal Killing of Priest in Kerio Valley

Moiben: A section of clergy and church elders in Moiben constituency have condemned the brutal killing of the servant of God in the volatile Kerio Valley last week. The church leaders, led by Reverend Luka Sang of Africa Inland Church Chepkanga Fellowship, said that it was immoral for a sane human being to eliminate a man of God spreading and teaching the word in the insecure region that has not enjoyed peace for long.

According to Kenya News Agency, speaking after conducting Sunday service, Rev Sang urged the government to move with speed and apprehend the culprits responsible for the chilling killing of Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett of St Matthias Catholic Church, Tot Parish. 'Why should a man of God be shot to death and what crime has he committed to warrant such a brutal attack?' he said.

The clergy, while expressing disappointment, asked security agencies to flush out the criminals from their hideouts and restore the much-needed peace across the expansive agriculturally rich Kerio Valley. He maintained that the few criminal elements roaming the region while armed with illegal guns should not be allowed to muzzle the word of God by killing innocent servants and other professionals working in the area.

Rev Sang asked local elected leaders, village elders and the church to move in and mount aggressive civic education in the villages to educate the youth indoctrinated by insecurity into the culture of aggression on sanctity of life. Local youth, the church official stated, need to engage in peaceful activities rather than focusing their attention on negative things to destroy the society.

'This trend of killing innocent people should not happen again in the region. It scares away professionals like teachers and medical workers providing critical services in the region,' he reiterated.
