Post: Coast Region Prepares for Secure Festive Season with Enhanced Security Measures.

Mombasa: Coast Regional Commissioner (RC) Rhoda Onyancha has assured the county residents and both local and international tourists of a secure holiday season ahead of the festive period at the coast. Coast being one of the major tourist hubs in Kenya, the RC affirmed the government's plans and set strategies to ensure residents and visitors have a smooth and secure region for the festivities.According to Kenya News Agency, during a media briefing at the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Mombasa, Regional Commissioner Onyancha emphasized the implementation of an operational order tailored by each county to maintain peace during the festive season. She attributed the calmness experienced since February to a multi-agency approach that effectively addresses security concerns."We have evaluated ourselves and performed well as a team," Onyancha stated, highlighting that various counties have developed security plans to cover the festive period. She mentioned successful events, such as one in Malindi, and exp ressed confidence in maintaining peace and tranquility across the region. A multiagency command center will be established to handle emergencies, and toll-free numbers like 911, 112, and 999 will be available for citizens to report any security breaches.The RC noted partnerships with organizations like Reinvent, which support the regional security committee's efforts to maintain peace. Enhanced security personnel will be stationed at key locations, including shopping malls, beaches, tourist resorts, and places of worship. In notorious areas like Likoni and Kisauni, intensified police crackdowns have curbed gang activities.Onyancha urged parents to monitor their children and belongings, especially at the beach, as last season saw numerous cases of lost children. With international visitors expected, the RC assured that border security is prioritized to prevent criminal elements from entering.Addressing counterfeiting concerns, Onyancha stated that efforts are in place to prevent illegal goods from enteri ng the country. The fight against drug and substance abuse continues, with significant seizures of cannabis sativa, heroin, and cocaine reported in Kwale and Kilifi counties.Traffic management and noise pollution control measures are also outlined to ensure a smooth festive experience. Onyancha called on the business community to collaborate with security agencies through community policing to address challenges. She urged leaders to promote peace and support security efforts to enhance the region's appeal as a holiday destination and attract investors.Regional Police Commander George Seda supported the RC's sentiments, emphasizing the National Police Service's commitment to preventing criminal activities. Seda assured that all police units will work together to ensure the safety of residents and tourists in the Coast region.
