Post: Commissioner Commends Security Agencies for Thwarting Al-Shabaab Attacks

Garissa: North Eastern regional commissioner John Otieno has commended security agencies in the region for their dedication to duty that has thwarted several planned Al-Shabaab terror attacks in the area. Otieno highlighted the efforts of the security forces in neutralizing potential threats from Somali-based terror groups, noting that many such incidents had gone unreported.

According to Kenya News Agency, Otieno praised the collaborative efforts of multi-agency security teams, emphasizing their role in preventing numerous attacks. He expressed gratitude for the public's willingness to provide credible information that assists security officers in their efforts to prevent terrorism. The regional commissioner assured that the government has implemented necessary security strategies to protect the region, although he acknowledged that ongoing threats from militants remain a significant concern.

Addressing the media at the Garissa government guest house, Otieno officially opened a one-day public participation forum focused on the national government village elders' policy and regulations for establishing administrative units. He stressed the importance of village elders in enhancing security, as their role in providing firsthand information through the chiefs is crucial.

Accompanied by the regional security team, Otieno identified Mandera and Fafi sub-county in Garissa County as particularly challenging areas for security. Nevertheless, he noted ongoing government initiatives aimed at improving security in these regions. Discussing key government projects targeted by militants, Otieno mentioned efforts to secure contractors, particularly highlighting the Northern corridor project from Isiolo to Mandera as a critical focus for government security measures.
