Post: Commissioner Orders Chiefs to Ensure 100% School Enrollment in Makueni County

Makueni: Makueni County Commissioner Duncan Darusi has directed chiefs and their assistants to ensure all children of school-going age are enrolled in local educational institutions. This directive was issued during the inauguration of Felistus Mutunga as Chief for Kilyungi Location in Mbooni West Subcounty at the African Brotherhood Church grounds.According to Kenya News Agency, Darusi emphasized the importance of education for children who have left school due to early pregnancies, urging them to return and continue their education. Darusi stressed the need to protect the future generation by ensuring a solid educational foundation for children. He reminded the chiefs and their assistants of their role as a bridge between the government and the community.Darusi also encouraged local residents to engage in development activities and support the chiefs in their duties to enhance development within their jurisdictions. He highlighted the necessity of collaboration, stating, "If you want to go far, you have to walk with others," and noted that government policies should benefit the people.The county commissioner praised the government's infrastructure projects, including the tarmacking of the Kikima-Kyambasi road, which cost over Sh1.2 billion, and the construction of a modern market at Kikima under the economic Stimulus programme, which have improved transport and economic conditions in the area.Addressing social issues, Darusi called for collective action from the clergy, elected leaders, civil society, and other stakeholders to combat rising suicide cases and eliminate Gender-Based Violence (GBV). He also warned individuals involved in illegal gambling activities of potential prosecution.Mbooni West Sub-county Police Commander Mr. Benson Makumbi, speaking at the same event, warned against theft of avocados, macadamias, and chickens, assuring residents that security agencies would act on information provided confidentially to arrest and prosecute offenders. His remarks were in response to concerns from l ocals about increasing theft incidents from farms and homesteads.
