Post: County Government of Bomet Pledges Full Implementation of Climate Action Programme

Bomet: The County Government of Bomet is committed to support efforts aimed at mitigating climate change and its effects. This includes the County’s undertaking in ensuring the full implementation of the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme in the region. Speaking during a workshop for officials of the Bomet County Climate Change Steering Committee, the Climate Change Unit and Monitoring and Evaluation unit, Bomet Governor Prof Hillary Barchok, said that his administration was keen on promoting climate resilience activities in the county, towards the larger goal of taming overall global climate change and its effects on the environment.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Barchok called upon stakeholders to upscale their involvement in supporting local communities in capacity building in the adoption of climate-smart practices in their day-to-day activities. The governor stated that the county government was prepared to continue collaborating with private players to combat the causes of climate change.

Barchok reviewed the progress the county has made in addressing climate change effects and urged for more collaborative efforts from various stakeholders to enhance climate change resilience. He emphasized the need for all county departments to align their programmes and activities towards combating climate change for increased efficiency.

The workshop aimed to assess the implementation progress of the Financially Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) in the county. Key issues discussed included evaluating the progress and impact of ongoing FLLoCA activities, improving the effectiveness of monitoring and evaluation processes, and identifying challenges to inform future program enhancements. Additionally, the forum focused on strengthening Environmental and Social safeguards to ensure the environmental sustainability of FLLoCA activities and minimize any potential negative impacts.
