Post: County Launches Ebukholi Water Supply and Catchment Conservation Project

Vihiga: The County Government of Vihiga has launched a major water and climate resilience initiative aimed at enhancing clean water access and conserving vital water sources in North East Bunyore Ward, Emuhaya Sub-County. The Ebukholi Water Supply and Catchment Conservation Project was officially unveiled by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Environment, Water, Energy, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, Dr. Jairus Amayi, alongside senior county officials.

According to Kenya News Agency, the project forms part of the county's fourth cycle under the Climate Change Resilience Programme, designed to boost sustainability, environmental conservation, and favourable climate at the community level. Key components of the Ebukholi project include the rehabilitation of the Wamaina Spring, construction of a 100-cubic metre masonry water tank, installation of a solar-powered water pumping system, laying of a rising main to the Ebukoli elevated steel tank, erection of a 100-cubic metre elevated tank at Esibuye Primary School, catchment conservation of Wamaina Spring, and water connectivity to at least 100 households.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Dr. Amayi emphasized the County's commitment to sustainable development through climate-responsive interventions. He stated that the project reflects this commitment by improving access to clean and safe water.

Dr. Amayi was accompanied by CECM for Finance and Economic Planning Onzere Mulongo, Chief Officers Dr. Richard Boiyo (Environment) and Dr. Noel Malanda (Water and Sanitation), and County Director for Climate Change Winstone Atamba, among other departmental officials. Moreover, the project is set to benefit over 500 residents by drastically reducing the distance to access clean water, enhancing hygiene, and supporting small-scale agricultural productivity through better water availability.
