Post: County Partners with Kenya Society for the Blind to Enhance Eye Care Services

Vihiga: Vihiga County has taken a bold step in enhancing eye care and support for visually impaired individuals through a landmark partnership between the Vihiga County Referral Hospital (VCRH) and the Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB). The partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the leadership of the County Executive Committee Member for Health, Julius Maruja.

According to Kenya News Agency, the move aims to improve optical and mobility services for the blind and visually impaired, with collaboration across health, education, and community service sectors. This initiative will leverage VCRH's existing optical infrastructure and resources, alongside a capacity-building program focused on personnel training and development.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, CECM Julius Maruja emphasized the universal relevance of eye health. "Eye problems can affect anyone in our society from children to elders, across all social strata. This mutual collaboration between VCRH and KSB demonstrates our commitment to inclusive healthcare that leaves no one behind," he said.

A joint implementation committee, comprising representatives from both VCRH and KSB, has been established to oversee the partnership. This committee will provide advisory support and promptly address any challenges arising during the MoU's execution. The formation of this committee marks a strategic move to ensure that the partnership's objectives are met efficiently, effectively, and sustainably.
