Djerba: Solidarity and participatory bicycle park to open soon

A solidarity and participatory bicycle park called “Soli Bikes” will open on April 29, in Taourit, Houmt Souk, Djerba.

Established by the Djerba Insolite Association, this park will provide residents and visitors bicycle rental services, guided outings, repair workshops and training sessions dedicated to cycling, the association said in a statement.

This initiative was taken in partnership with the French Institute of Tunisia (IFT), as part of the “Jeune Écolo Djerbien” project. It is also part of the “Djerba Biking” project launched in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature “WWF Tunisia” and the Tunisian association “Shanti”.

These projects seek to promote sustainable tourism and raise awareness among residents and visitors about environmental protection while using bicycles as an ecological and “eco-friendly” means of transport in Djerba.

During the inauguration ceremony, the association will hand over two waste collection scooters and a bicycle shelter to the municipality of Houmt Souk.

Launched in 2014, the Djerba insolite association works to preserve and promote the Island’s heritage, through alternative tourism.
