Dschang Cliff Landslide: Provisional Death Toll Rises to Four as Search Continues.


Dschang: The Governor of the West region, Awa Fonka Augustine, has disclosed that at least four bodies have been pulled from rubble following a landslide that occurred at about 10 am on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the Dschang hill in the West region.

According to Cameroon News Agency, a press statement issued by the Governor revealed that the incident has completely cut off circulation along the Dschang-Santchou road, claiming four lives after a second landslide occurred at the same spot at about 2:30 pm.

Governor Awa Fonka added that the West Regional Delegation of Public Works and the Dschang City Hall dispatched an emergency team to clear the pathway, but the second landslide buried some of the equipment. Three heavy machines, three coaster transport vehicles, five picnic vehicles, and several motorcycles are among the materials buried by the landscape.

The Governor has also disclosed that an emergency team is still on the ground to complete the search and clear the pathway. In the meantime, traffi
c between Santchou and Dschang has been prohibited, as road users have been recommended to use the Mélong-Kékem-Bafang-Bafoussam axis. Those living around the area have also been asked to evacuate.
