WHO has announced the eradication of malaria in Egypt, calling the achievement “truly historic.” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus hailed the country’s commitment, stressing that the victory marks the end of a millennia-old scourge.
Egypt achieved this result through intensive vector control, prevention and awareness campaigns.
To achieve this certification, a country must prove that it has been free of malaria transmission for at least three years. To date, 44 countries have been certified as malaria-free.
