Koudougou: An awareness-raising workshop on transparency in the extractive sector was hosted in Koudougou. The event was initiated by the Permanent Secretariat of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), AIB noted.According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop aimed to assess the contribution of stakeholders to good governance within the sector. Amede Pare, president of the Koudougou municipal special delegation, expressed his appreciation for the campaign, emphasizing the advantages of transparency in mining. He noted that it aids in combating corruption, enhances local governance, improves public access to information, and boosts investor confidence.Eric Zoure, the permanent secretary of the EITI, elaborated that the evaluation of extractive sector actors would rely on five criteria: information production, monitoring and control, anti-corruption efforts, information disclosure, and public perception. This evaluation will combine a technical rating by a committee of experts (80%) and a popular survey among communities (20%), conducted through face-to-face, online, and telephone surveys. There is a test phase scheduled for 2026 before the annual process is fully implemented.Zoure extended his gratitude to the local and traditional authorities for their support. Meanwhile, Pare encouraged participants to actively engage and act as conduits of information to the wider population.
