Post: Elders Call for Unity Among UDA Leaders in Embu County

Embu: A section of elders in Embu County has called on leaders in the UDA party to stop blame games and embrace dialogue to sort out their differences. The call comes two days after Governor Cecily Mbarire claimed during Madaraka Day Celebrations on Sunday that there were senior government officials trying to undermine her authority. She accused the alleged detractors of holding secret meetings in the county ostensibly to plot her political downfall, adding that she will not take it lying down and will fight back.

According to Kenya News Agency, the elders from Nyangi Ndiriri Cultural Group expressed concern that the political tiff between the leaders was unhealthy and would only serve to derail development in the county. They blamed the leaders for turning the county into a hotbed of divisive and retrogressive politics, terming the ongoings as 'political bad manners'.

Speaking during a press briefing in Embu Town on Tuesday, the elders asked the parties to stop talking at each other and start talking with each other to mend their differences. 'What example are we setting to those in the opposition if those in the government cannot tolerate one another?' posed group Chair Andrew Ireri. He accused the leaders of heightening political temperatures and needlessly putting the county in campaign mode as if elections were near.

'We have over two years to go to the next elections and so it is our passionate plea that leaders hold their horses and focus on the pressing issues affecting wananchi,' he said.
