Employment4Youth project: Introducing institutional fabric to Industry 4.0 to promote its adoption

A seminar to introduce institutional managers to Industry 4.0, its challenges and various basic tools was held by United Nations Industry and Development Organisation (UNIDO on Tuesday in Tunis and Abidjan concurrently.

The seminar is part of the project “Industry 4.0 to Foster Youth Employment in Tunisia and Côte d’Ivoire / Employment4Youth”.

The concept of Industry 4.0, which refers to the fourth industrial revolution, corresponds to a new way of organising the means of production through a new generation of connected, robotic and smart factories.

The Employment4Youth project was launched in January 2022, in parallel in Tunisia and Côte d’Ivoire, and will run until the end of 2024.

In Tunisia, the project aims to support the development of Industry 4.0, the creation of jobs and the upgrading of the workforce, and to encourage sustainable investment and private sector development in favour of Industry 4.0.

It will also contribute to consolidating the digital economy ecosystem by supporting the structural transformation of the economy and the modernisation of value chains in the four selected pilot industrial sectors: mechanical engineering (aeronautics, automotive, electromechanical), textiles, pharmaceuticals and agri-food.

Today’s seminar is part of the fourth component of the project, which aims to build the capacity of the institutional fabric and business support centres to make the decision-making environment more conducive to the necessary transition to Industry 4.0.

The seminar was held by international experts and professionals. Participating institutions were given access to the Festo Learning Experience e-learning platform to consolidate the knowledge acquired.

A series of courses on Industry 4.0 will be developed by the organisers and offered to the participating institutions, which will also be entitled to online training on this topic.

The Employment4Youth project is implemented by UNIDO and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as part of the German government’s Special Initiative (SI) for training and job creation.
