Post: Fight Against Corruption: Cameroon Lost FCFA 114Billion in 2023

Cameroon lost over FCFA 100 Billion in 2023 due to corruption by various public corporations a recent National Anti-Corruption Commission (CONAC) report has revealed.The revelation was made on September 26 by CONAC president, the Rev. Dieudonné Massi Gams during the presentation of Cameroon's 2023 anti-corruption status report in Yaoundé. Rev. Massi Gams also indicated that the amount was a significant increase from 2020 when FCFA17 Billion of state funds were lost to corruption. In 2022, the figure stood at a little over FCFA 43 Billion.According to CONAC, some twenty decisions concerning managers and former managers of six structures including the National Social Insurance Fund (NSIF) and the Cameroon Real Estate Corporation, better known by its French abbreviation (SIC), were taken by CONAC's Budgetary Disciplinary Committee.'Some of these officials were placed on the balance due for a total amount of FCA 6.1 billion,' Rev. Massi Gams said.According to the CONAC chief, the total amount of damages owed to the State of Cameroon amounts to some FCFA 38.5 billion. Meanwhile, regarding asset recovery operations, the Special Criminal Court recorded restitutions of stolen funds amounting to FCFA 1.47 billion.Moreover, the Debt Recovery Company was able to recover FCFA 7 billion concerning court decisions relating to misappropriation of public property, bringing the total amount the state was able to recover to FCFA 8.5 Billion.Source: Cameroon News Agency
