Post: Focus on Serving God’s People, Ordained Katakwa Priests Told

Katakwa: The 13 newly ordained ACK Katakwa priests have been challenged to focus on upholding high moral standards and integrity of the altar so as to mold holistic Christians who could be counted on in the society. Speaking after presiding over the ordination at St. Pauls ACK Machakus parish in Teso South, Katakwa Diocese Bishop Rt. Rev. John Okude urged the clergy not to separate themselves from the people whom they would serve and lead.

According to Kenya News Agency, Rev. Okude reminded the priests of Christian doctrines and societal values, referencing Mathew 5: 14-16, emphasizing that they are the light of the world. He urged them to be prepared for challenges in their ministry, noting it as part of their calling and essential for bringing many back to Christ. Rev. Okude, who will retire later this year, also cautioned the youth against being misled by political figures, urging them to maintain national peace.

Kilifi Bishop Emeritus Rev. Samson Mwaluda echoed these sentiments, stating that society requires leaders who genuinely serve God and remain true to their words. He addressed both ordained priests and political leaders, advising them to avoid glorifying their positions and instead use their roles to effect societal change.

Bishop Mwaluda also encouraged the clergy to advocate for both spiritual and economic transformation, especially among the youth who are predominantly active on social media. The appeal comes amid growing interactions between the youth and leaders on social media platforms. The church and leaders are urging parents to maintain close relationships with their children to guide them effectively.

The recent moral decay observed among the youth has been attributed to a lack of parental guidance and an overemphasis on material wealth and success, highlighting an urgent need for corrective measures.
