Kiambu: Kiambu County CECM for Youth Affairs Osman Korar and Chief Officer, Godfrey Masolo, have pledged major improvements at Gacii Sports Ground in Kihara Ward. The two officials toured the facility in Kiambaa Sub-County together with Kihara Ward MCA, John 'Kabau' Muthondu, where they inspected ongoing works and reviewed the soon-to-be-completed changing rooms. They also outlined additional developments aimed at transforming the field into a fully equipped multi-sport venue.
According to Kenya News Agency, among the proposed works is the addition of fine murram, leveling, and compacting of the playing field to improve its usability. The officials further noted the need to raise the height of the perimeter fence, particularly along the gate area where it is currently low.
'We are committed to ensuring that this facility meets the highest standards and becomes a safe and vibrant space for our youth to nurture their talents,' said Korar. Chief Officer Masolo emphasized the importance of addressing soil erosion through stone pitching, which will also double as a seating area for fans. 'The ground should serve not only players but also spectators. We want to create a friendly environment for all,' he noted.
The tour also highlighted plans to construct a standard basketball court within the sports complex. This, the county leaders noted, would diversify sporting activities and give young people from the region more avenues to showcase and develop their skills.
Hon. Muthondu welcomed the developments, adding that the upgrade would have a lasting impact on the community. 'Sports is a unifying force. With these facilities in place, we will give our youth both recreational and professional opportunities,' he said.
The Department of Youth Affairs confirmed that once all enhancements are finalized, Gacii Sports Ground will be positioned as a hub for talent development across multiple sporting disciplines. The initiative forms part of Kiambu County's wider commitment to promoting sports, nurturing young talent, and investing in recreational facilities across its sub-counties.
